Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Endorses Tom Perez For Maryland Governor

July 1, 2022

DUNDALK, MD — Maryland gubernatorial candidate and former Maryland and U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez today announced that Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski has endorsed Perez to be the next governor of Maryland.

“Maryland needs a battle-tested governor with bold vision, strong leadership, and a proven track record of getting stuff done to strengthen our state and support working families. That’s why I’m endorsing my friend Tom Perez to be Maryland’s next governor,” said County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “Throughout his career, Tom Perez has fought for working families, stood up for civil rights, and got stuff done to strengthen communities. Together, we will continue to fight for jobs, justice, and opportunity for Baltimore County and across the state of Maryland.”

County Executive Olszewski, the leader of the state’s third-largest jurisdiction, is the latest County Executive to endorse the Perez-Sneed ticket, joining Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner, and former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett.

“Johnny O is a bold, thoughtful, and transformative leader who has continued to deliver on his promises to build a more open, inclusive, and better Baltimore County. I’m so honored to earn his support in our campaign to deliver jobs, justice, and opportunity for folks throughout Baltimore County and across Maryland,” said Tom Perez. “From providing record education funding to enacting historic public safety reforms to increasing transparency and accountability in local government and much more, County Executive Olszewski has shown time and again that he is truly a “Get Stuff Done” Democrat. I can’t wait to work in partnership with him to support Maryland’s working families for years to come.”

County Executive Olszewski’s endorsement is another sign of the Perez-Sneed campaign’s growing momentum ahead of the July 19 primary and comes on the heels of endorsements from 1199SEIU and The Baltimore Sun, which called Perez “by far the most qualified and battle-tested of the candidates.”
