May 26, 2022

SILVER SPRING, MD – Maryland gubernatorial candidate, and former Maryland and U.S. Labor Secretary, Tom Perez, announced that he has received the endorsement of Progressive Maryland, a statewide advocacy organization with over 120,000 individual members, supporters, and organizational affiliates statewide.

“Tom Perez is a champion for working families and the change that we need for our state. His life work advocating for police reform already shows that he is dedicated to justice for Maryland’s communities,” Larry Stafford, Executive Director of Progressive Maryland said. “We feel confident that as our Governor, he will successfully pave a new path toward strong union jobs; equitable access to quality public education; and a safe, clean environment for all Marylanders. We are honored to stand behind the Perez-Sneed campaign because it’s time for major change to help our state lead on progressive issues in the 21st century,”

“We’re so proud to have earned the support of Progressive Maryland who shares our vision to deliver jobs, justice, and opportunity for every Marylander — and believes in our ability to get the job done,” Tom Perez said. “It means so much to me to earn their trust, their support, and their partnership in our campaign. Together we’ll continue our historic fight for racial, social, economic, and environmental justice across our state.”

Formed in 2000, Progressive Maryland provides statewide leadership and coordination for national, state, and regional campaigns. The organization works with hundreds of community, religious, labor, and other grassroots allies to fight for progressive values, such as police reform, protections for voting rights, environmental justice, and more. This year, they had victories on creating a paid family leave policy for Marylanders and legislation providing funding for families who’ve been trapped by medical debt. Progressive Maryland also launched the New Era PAC one year ago and recently held a virtual anniversary event featuring many of their other endorsed candidates, along with Congressman Jamie Raskin, where they reached a total of $50,000 raised for down-ballot progressive candidates.
