SILVER SPRING – Today, Maryland gubernatorial candidate Tom Perez released the below statement following hostage situation at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas over the weekend:
“This past weekend, we watched in horror as innocent Americans were held captive at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas — a place that should be among the safest in the world to its Rabbi and congregants.
I am relieved that all the hostages made it home safely to their families last night, and am thankful for the first responders who worked tirelessly to protect them.
Over the last several years, we've seen a disturbing rise in antisemitism across our country -- including the attacks in Pittsburgh, Poway, Monsey, and now Colleyville.
Antisemitism is a stain on our nation and on our world, and no one should ever feel unsafe to worship. We must come together to support our Jewish communities, uplift organizations working to protect the freedom to worship, and root out hatred and bigotry wherever it exists.”
